BACKPACK KIDS

FCC is one of five local churches that pack bags of food for children/ youth , who have been identified as ‘food insecure’ in the home. FCC has packed food bags once a month, on the fourth Wednesday, for 17 years. FCC collects contributions occasionally from the congregation , to be given to the local Backpack Kids fund. God’s Pantry supplies much of the staples for the project, and our local storage/ packing site is housed at Indian Hills Christian Church. The FCC team prepares the food bags at that location.
We generally have 10-16 packers. Recently, however, due to Covid-19 health concerns, we have a smaller packing group to assure proper social distancing. Generally we pack 150-200 bags of food. The children/ youth receive a bag each week.

CHURCH UNDER THE BRIDGE

FCC participates twice a year in this non-denominational ministry of churches in the Lexington area of providing worship, teaching, and prayer for the homeless in downtown Lexington.  Each church is responsible for a feeding at the end of the service in which opportunities of the hope and love of Christ is shared even further.  A bible study is also available for those interested after the worship service.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Throughout the year, several community-wide events are held with the help of many volunteers.  It's always a perfect opportunity to strengthen the fellowship of the church while sharing the love of Christ.  The following events traditionally occur each year:  Easter Egg Hunt, Great American Brass Band Festival Ecumenical Worship Service, VBS, Track or Treat, and Breakfast with Santa and more.

GRACE GARDENS

The mission of Grace Gardens is to plant, harvest, preserve, educate and to make available nutritious fruits and vegetables for those in need in our community, for church functions, for church members and for a nonprofit, pay-as-you-can restaurant called Grace Cafe.  Two gardens sites compose Grace Gardens.  Site 1 is the Reflection Garden with a shape reflecting the design of the Sanctuary window under which it is located.  Site 2 is the Trinity Garden, an organic vegetable garden with seating, raised beds and handicapped accessibility.  It features a butterfly garden and antique rose bushes along with vegetable beds and blueberry bushes.

SOUPS ON US

Inspired and mentored by the Saint Peter and Paul ministry, Soup’s on Us, FCC began its own SOU outreach in February of 2010. On the third Saturday of every month, FCC volunteers prepare and deliver meals to needy families in the Danville, Junction City area. Carryout boxes include soup, sandwiches, crackers, fruit cup and cookies.

THE SALVATION ARMY

FCC has a long-standing relationship with The Salvation Army and their mission for Boyle county residents. For over 20 years we have supported their Angel Tree Program and Kettle Bell Ringing during the Christmas season. Our 4 Cans 4 Others program is an ongoing ministry that continues to provide items for their food pantry throughout the year. Church members are encouraged to bring 4 cans of food items each Sunday to help support the food demand for many low-income families in the  Danville/Boyle County community.
