The Chancel Choir usually rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm. The choir leads the music each Sunday morning for the 10:45 am worship service as well as presenting larger works for the Christmas and Easter seasons. The sanctuary choir of First Christian Church also serves as the core of the community choir for the Great American Brass Band Festival community outdoor worship service each June. After performing for the Great American Brass Band Festival Worship Service, the FCC choir takes a summer break and returns to sing in the fall. Choir members who are willing are encouraged to sit up front in the choir area during the summer and help lead the congregational hymns. Special music is arranged during those weeks that the choir is formally absent.
Grace Notes Handbell Choir (the adult handbell choir) rehearses at 5 pm on Sunday evenings during the months of September-May. Grace Notes performs at various time throughout the liturgical season during Sunday morning worship services, with larger performances on Christmas and Easter. Some prior knowledge of reading music is helpful if you are interested in ringing with the handbells. Contact the church office for more information. The Youth Handbell Choir is led by long-time member Judy Morgan and meets to rehearse on designated Sunday evenings at 4:30 pm. The Youth Handbells ring at various times throughout the year. These young ringers are very talented, and their performances are always a highlight of the season!
Children's Choir is composed of preschool through fifth grade. Practice is held on Sunday evenings. The children perform for holidays as well as some other Sunday mornings; for performances, they wear robes or holiday attire. Children are expected to attend at least one practice in order to perform. These young vocalists usually take the summer off even though they have fun hangouts and might even perform for special occasions such as Father's Day. This is a growing group that is always learning and having fun.
